Prayer Resources, Part 4 - The Finale

I'm concluding my look at some of my favorite prayer resources today.

6.Praying in Color

Sybil MacBeth wrote a wonderful book called, Praying in Color: Drawing a New Path to God. In it, she describes how staying focused in prayer was a challenge for her. Then she began doing art as she prayed. The art cards she made became a visual reminder of the prayers. She starts with the person's name and draws a circle around them. Then, as she prays, she doodles around the name. Like this prayer for my hubby, the football coach:
I think this is a great idea. I love doing art as I pray. Worship art! But I had one big problem with this method:

I don't doodle.

Okay. I know that sounds weird, but I don't. I can "add doodles" to art projects, but only because I've watched videos and am copying what I've seen. I've even paid for a doodling class online. Sad, but true. It isn't something that just comes naturally. I freeze. I panic. I have to get out of my analytical left brain and turn on the creative right side. There have been a FEW times when it flows (and those are coming more easily) but mostly it's a struggle.

So, instead, I approach this from my comfort zone: Mixed Media. I have no trouble now when I put my gesso, paint, stencils, etc into play. I pray and art. I art and pray.

What can I say? I'm quirky.

But the truth today is this: God loves me - quirks and all. He hears my prayers. And He'll hear yours. Don't listen to the enemy's lies. God hears you. God loved you sooo much that He sent His Son to pay your debt. After all that, praying (talking to Him) isn't so much to ask, is it?

No matter how you pray, PRAY. Build that relationship with Him. You'll be better for it. And so, we will continue our focus on prayer throughout the month of February.

Prayer: Beloved Father God, thank You for sending Jesus to take my place so that I could stand before You unashamed. Thank You for hearing my simple prayers. And most of all, thank You for loving me, quirks and all. In Jesus' name.
